25th WEEK OF THE ITALIAN LANGUAGE IN THE WORLD: ITALIAN BEYOND BORDERS

On the occasion of the 25th edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World, the Embassy of Italy in Tallinn is pleased to present a series of events dedicated to the promotion of the Italian language and culture, in collaboration with Tallinn University and the Embassy of Switzerland to Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.

The theme of the 2025 edition – “Italian beyond borders: migration, identity, multilingualism” – offers an opportunity to explore Italian as a language of expression, dialogue and belonging in multicultural contexts.

The programme includes four public events:

  • 10 October, 16:15 – Room M-328, Tallinn University
Migration paths in contemporary Italian literature
A conversation with writer and editor Antonella Mei, focusing on the theme of migration in current Italian literature. An opportunity to reflect – through the written word – on departure, roots, and evolving identities.
  • 11 October, 11:00 – Room M-340 (ELU ruum), Tallinn University
The challenges of the journey: growth and fear of the unknown

  • 15 October, 18:00 – Room M-213, Tallinn University
Voices of Italy: readings, music and translation paths
An evening blending words and music to celebrate the richness of the Italian language in its literary and artistic forms, with bilingual readings and musical performances inspired by both classical and contemporary texts.
  • 18 October – Conference “Italophonia: Italian Beyond Borders”
A full day of academic discussion and reflection on the role of Italian as a living language in a global context, with a particular focus on the connections between the Mediterranean and the Baltic regions. The conference will feature the participation of scholars, experts, and institutional representatives.
