{"id":159,"date":"2023-04-11T18:17:44","date_gmt":"2023-04-11T15:17:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambtallinn.esteri.it\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/emergency-travel-documents-etd\/"},"modified":"2026-03-30T17:50:28","modified_gmt":"2026-03-30T14:50:28","slug":"emergency-travel-documents-etd","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ambtallinn.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/emergency-travel-documents-etd\/","title":{"rendered":"Emergency Travel Document (ETD)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5>LOSS OR THEFT OF TRAVEL DOCUMENTS<\/h5>\n<p><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">In the event of theft or loss of documents, the Consular Office of this Embassy can issue an Emergency Travel Document (EU-ETD), valid from the date of issue, and valid only for return to Italy or the country of residence where the person is registered with AIRE.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\"> To obtain one, please contact the Consular Office at +372 627 6160 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Only in cases of particular and proven emergency, EU-ETDs may be issued outside of these hours, on weekends or holidays, by reporting your request to the Embassy officer on duty (+372 5165723).<\/span><\/span><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\"> In the event of theft of documents, a specific report must be made to the nearest Police Station.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Upon arrival in Italy, the report must also be registered with the competent authorities.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h5>DOCUMENTATION TO BE SUBMITTED<\/h5>\n<p><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">To obtain an ETD, you must present the following documentation at the Embassy:<\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">\u2013 A report of the theft of your passport or identity card filed with the local competent police authority;<\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">\u2013 A travel document with a confirmed departure date;<\/span><\/span><br \/>\n\u2013\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ambtallinn.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/albo-consolare-e-altri-servizi\/set-of-forms\/\">the Application for the EU-E.T.D.<\/a>;<br \/>\n\u2013 Where possible, a photocopy of the lost\/stolen document or any other photographic document, or alternatively, the presence of a witness with an identity document who can identify the applicant.<\/p>\n<h5>UNACCOMPANIED MINORS<\/h5>\n<p>Minors unaccompanied by their parents must present, in addition to the documentation indicated in the previous paragraph, a declaration of custody to the accompanying adult and the parents&#8217; consent, along with copies of their documents.<\/p>\n<h5>WARNING<\/h5>\n<p><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The applicant&#8217;s identity must be proven through photocopies of the lost or stolen ID, other documents containing personal information, a photo, and a signature (e.g., a driver&#8217;s license), or a declaration from at least one witness.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The witness must be an adult and must have a valid ID (identity card or passport).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">If neither of these options is feasible, the consular office may request confirmation of the applicant&#8217;s personal information from the Italian municipality of residence, but this verification may take a long time to process.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h5>OBLIGATION TO RETURN<\/h5>\n<p>Once arrived in the destination country, in accordance with Article 4(8) of Directive (EU) 2019\/997, the holder of the EU-ETD must return the document to the border police or another police station if traveling back to Italy, or to the Consular office with territorial jurisdiction if travelling to a country other than Italy.<\/p>\n<h5>COSTS<\/h5>\n<p>The EU-ETD is issued free of charge.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"LOSS OR THEFT OF TRAVEL DOCUMENTS In the event of theft or loss of documents, the Consular Office of this Embassy can issue an Emergency Travel Document (EU-ETD), valid from the date of issue, and valid only for return to Italy or the country of residence where the person is registered with AIRE.
