On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women<\/strong>, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani<\/strong>, reaffirms Italy and the Farnesina’s ongoing commitment to preventing <\/strong>and combating all forms <\/strong>of violence <\/strong>and discrimination against women<\/strong>, in Italy and around the world.<\/p>\n

“Violence against women is an unacceptable violation of human rights<\/strong> and an obstacle<\/strong> to the development<\/strong> of<\/strong> our societies<\/strong>. Italy must continue to be at the forefront of promoting gender equality, women’s empowerment,<\/strong> and the protection<\/strong> of the most vulnerable<\/strong>. We must build a future in which no woman fears for her freedom or her life. This is a responsibility that falls to institutions, civil society, <\/strong>and each of us<\/strong>,” the Minister stated.<\/p>\n

The elimination of gender-based violence remains a cornerstone of Italian foreign policy <\/strong>and development cooperation<\/strong>, supporting international campaigns against harmful practices such as female genital mutilation and early and forced marriage, as well as actively contributing to the work of the UN Commission on the Status of Women.<\/strong> Combating all forms of violence against women and girls is also one of Italy’s priorities during its mandate as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council<\/strong> for the three-year period 2026-2028.<\/p>\n

This year, the Ministry and its foreign network are participating in the global “Orange the World<\/strong>” campaign promoted by UN Women, lighting the fa\u00e7ade of the Farnesina and participating in awareness-raising initiatives aimed at civil society and young people.<\/p>\n

The Farnesina and the Italian diplomatic and consular network are also renewing their commitment to the “red benches<\/strong>” initiative, a universal symbol of the fight against femicide and a visible warning against all forms of violence.<\/p>\n

The promotion of educational programs<\/strong> that include training on combating violence continues, as exemplified by the scholarship program “Invest Your Talent in Italy<\/strong>” launched in memory of Giulia Cecchettin.<\/p>\n
