Emergency Travel Document (ETD)

LOSS OR THEFT OF TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

In the event of theft or loss of documents, the consular office of this Embassy can issue a temporary travel document (ETD – Emergency Travel Document), valid for 3-4 days from the date of issue, and valid only for return in Italy or in the country of residence where you are registered with A.I.R.E.

To obtain it, contact the consular office on +372 627 6160 from 9:30 to 12:30 or from 15 to 17 from Monday to Friday. Only in particularly urgent and serious cases, ETDs may be issued outside the aforementioned hours.

On weekends and holidays it will not be possible to issue ETDs, except in cases of proven emergency and seriousness. To this end, you will need to report your request to the duty officer of the Embassy (+372 5165723).

In case of release on weekends and public holidays, emergency fees (50.00 Euros) may be requested.

In the event of theft or loss of documents, a specific report must be made to the nearest police station. Upon arrival in Italy, the report must be registered with the competent authorities.

DOCUMENTATION TO BE SUBMITTED

To obtain the release of an ETD you must go to the Embassy with the following documentation:
– report of theft or loss of passport or identity card made to the competent local Police Authority;
– 2 passport size photographs (equal, frontal, in colour);
– travel ticket with the confirmed departure date;
– where possible, a photocopy of the lost/stolen document or any other document with a photograph or, alternatively, the presence of a witness, equipped with an identity document, who is able to identify the applicant.

UNACCOMPANIED MINORS

For minors unaccompanied by their parents, it is necessary to present the declaration of custody to the accompanying adult or the parental consent accompanied by a copy of the latter’s documents.

WARNING

The identity of the applicant must be demonstrated through photocopies of the lost or stolen identity document, or with other documents containing personal data, photo and signature (e.g. driving licence) or, again, through a declaration made by at least one witness. The witness must be of legal age and must have a valid identity document (identity card or passport).

If none of these options is feasible, the consular representation may request confirmation of the personal data of the person from the Italian Municipality of residence, but this verification may require long processing times.

COSTS

The cost of an ETD is 1.55 euros to be paid in cash. In case of release on weekends and public holidays, emergency fees may be requested, which amount to 50.00 Euros.
